Fashiontweet moved to her own crib www.fashiontweet.net We are sooo excited, it has taken some time and some sweet talking the nerd boyfriend, but there you have it, we are live.

Please come and visit and share in the excitement.

Well I am on day 38 of not shopping and frankly I was feeling a little fed up with it. I would like to find a way to enjoy fashion and being out and about in the shops without having to spend a bunch of money.  So after having some morning cofffee with some dear friends I decided to walk home through the Utrechtsestraat in Amsterdam, one of my favourite streets.

There’s an American Apparel store in the Utrechtsestraat and whilst I am usually not crazy about their stuff a pair of really cool tights made me want to go in and check it out. They have all the normal basic t shirty stuff but some exceptions to the standard collection.

Check out this picture of some stuff in the window…

I like this look, whilst I am not crazy about the t shirt style dress underneath the cardigan I like the belt and the chains, also, I was excited that the stylist put some tights on the model in stead of … leggings. yeah!

And then guess who I came across in the store. A lovely girl with a very cute outfit. I am not sure what you would call her style, but she had her colours sorted out and she was wearing purple gloves. Also, her make up was simple, just some black eyeliner as far as I could see. I really liked her look.

Check out her pose:

A little further down the street I was surprised to find a store I had never seen or heard of before today, Centre Neuf, there was this amazing blue Marc Jacobs bag in the window. And now I want it, darnit… Well I have to figure out something to save up for, so it might just be this fantastic handbag.

As I left the Utrechtsestraat and continued my walk home, I felt re-energised and very happy to have spent some time enjoying my favourite thing, good old fashion and shopping. And guess what, didn’t buy a thing.

I’d say that’s progress.

Whilst I am a child of the eighties and a big fan of ‘I wanna dance with somebody’ and all that I cannot get my head ’round this new album cover…

WTF did the photoshopper on staff do to her face? She looks younger than she did when her first hits came out. I am not sure about the weave either, ever since I got all growed up and realised those fabulous locks aren’t real they kind of freak me out.

Another thing, what is this pre -occupation with singers to want to dress as though they are trying out for a Chorus Line?  Whilst I am a big fan of weight lifting for women and was on the path to having ‘Madonna’ arms and legs myself I find it odd that she wears tights on stage in lieu of pants or a skirt.

We seem to find it totally normal to show of our legs, now dont we Katy Perry? look what she wore on a red carpet (!!!) a little while ago…

You don’t have to look like a nun if you wear a skirt or pants, so can we all make a decision and leave the leotards for the gym and the bathingsuits for the beach?

Wow, thats what I thought when I saw this picture of Hillary Clinton at the 19th Annual GLAMOUR Women Of The Year Awards. Does she not look amazing? I like her hair and make up and love the dress, its glamorous, fits well and is totally age appropriate. Good for you Hillary, see ya in 2012….

Look at this painting my talented cousin Rachael Rendon just finished. Our home is full of her beautiful paintings and I just might want to purchase this one as well. Check it out:

'First date' by Rachael Rendon

Now don’t go and get confused, this is a painting not a photograph, nor is it a painting on top of a photograph. She’s just that good. If you want to see more check out Rachael’s website.

Now that all of the excitement about this election is behind us, lets get back to what we really want to talk about, clothes!

I wonder what Michelle Obama is going to wear in the next four years. She has famously confessed she wore Gap and JCrew on the campaign trail, will she continue to do that? I can’t help but imagine myself in the white house and what it would be like to become one of the most photographed women in the world. Even if you are like Michelle Obama, confident, very clever with a natural ease about you, wouldnt you feel a little daunted by what to wear???

What have we noticed so far? she wears a lot of dresses, mostly colours. When she wears pants, she usually combines the look with a blouse or t shirt and a cardigan, to soften it up. She’s good at accessorizing in a matter where less is more.    What I am most curious about is what kind of shoes she wears, as on most of the photo’s I can find online you cannot see her feet. I know she wore pointy ish flats on election night, which I would have done as well, it being the longest night of her life, girl needs some comfortable shoes.

To all my loyal readers out there, if you come across photographs of Michelle Obama post election, please let me know where to find them.

Let me leave you with the following images, my favourite first ladies both wearing a fashion classic.

Check out this Vanity Fair cover with Kate Winslet, she took my breath away. It’s one of those covers that are so stunning I want to frame it. I remember I used to make collages of gorgeous covers and ads. I’d sit at the kitchen table cutting out perfume bottles and looking at all these beautiful clothes. I was nine.

It’s very exciting to see the new presidential family of the US, they seem to be beaming with happiness.

As I have mentioned before I will leave all the political insights to my writer colleagues and just write from fashiontweet’s viewpoints. I think they look fantastic, I am not really into combining black and red as in Michelle’s dress, but whatever, they all look stunning don’t they.

I will be interested to see if Michelle Obama continues to wear outfits from the Gap and JCrew once she’s in the white house. I’m pretty sure that was all part of her side of the campaign, trying to relate to the ‘normal’ people, but when you are the first lady of the most powerful nation of the world, I assume a little couture might be appropriate. I wonder who she will choose as her main designer. I’m pretty sure she would look marvelous in St John, Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren couture, maybe some Armani.

Size zero is on the way out…. yeah!. Whilst I definately fall into the category that thinks models should be thin, the pre occupation with stick figures is beyond me. I love looking at fit, strong looking woman, not the kind that you’re afraid are gonna fall over in a storm.

So you can imagine my excitement when I came across these photographs of this model in a dutch magazine. Just so you know, this is not some piece about voluptuous, real women or anything. She’s just another underwear model.

I think it is so great to see this type of model in a major magazine. As I wrote before I have a feeling the current economic downturn is going to have a major, spiritual impact on the world and all that’s in it. That includes fashion, hair, body types etc as well as the more profound things in life of course.

Check this out, Oprah has a contest you can enter to win a trip to New York Fashion Week.
